With mixed emotions, the Board of Directors of Eastern Montgomery Meals on Wheels, Inc. made a difficult decision and voted to cease operations at the end of the day on Friday, September 13, 2024. Our volunteers made the last meal deliveries on that day.

In the almost fifty years from when our small charity was formed until the current date, the environment in which we operate has changed materially. In the current environment, the need for our services has been greatly diminished, the costs to deliver the services have risen sharply, and donations and third-party funding that supported reduced costs to our clients have receded. It was a deeply difficult decision to recognize that we could not successfully continue our initial and stated mission.

From its founding and throughout its history, Eastern Montgomery Meals on Wheels, Inc. was a unique not-for-profit charity that relied on donations from community organizations, churches, and individuals in order to supply charity and below-cost meals to our patrons. It is common for certain Meals on Wheels organizations to provide their charity by means of grants from County, State and Federal sources. As government funding sources for senior services have consolidated, our charity was unable to participate, thereby eliminating an alternate source of funding to continue our mission.

As we exit the Meals on Wheels space, we leave a void in our name, but not in available services. We have made arrangements with the Senior Adult Activity Center, Montco SAAC, to transition our remaining clients to their organization.
